Fall means apples and apples means that Suter's Morning Star Cider Press is creating the best-tasting cider in Ohio.
There are many ways to look forward to the holidays in Bluffton. The sweetest is waiting for Bluffton Senior Citizens peanut brittle to go on sale. It's on sale now at $4.50 a pound while the supply lasts. Each Monday morning in November from 28 to 32 volunteers make a fresh batch. Ingredients include 175 pounds of peanuts, 48 quarts of Karo, 200 pounds of sugar, toss in some vanilla and Blue Bonnet, heat, stir, cool and eat.
Paintings by Lima artist H.A. Vonderau are on exhibit in November at Common Grounds. He teaches drawing classes at Otterbein Assisted Living Homes, Cridersville. He has been featured in various galleries in Rhode Island, Florida, Ohio and Indiana.
Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs held its first-ever art auction fundraiser on Nov. 7 at The Centre. Auctioneers were Dick Boehr, Carlin Carpenter and Jerry Lewis. Thirty-four original works by local artists were auctioned. The event raised several thousand dollars for BCE. Over 135 persons attended the event. Here are some views of the auction in process.
The Nov. 20 Blaze of Lights auction raised over $1,000 for the 2009 Blaze of Lights. This year's auction featured for the first time, a gingerbread house decorating contest. Three winners' creations are displayed here. In addition a middle school holiday art contest attracted over 40 entries. The winning entries are: Olivia Hunt, eighth grade, first; Ashley King, seventh grade, second; and Ashley Baker, eighth grade third.
Creators of the winning gingerbread houses are: Sheree Stratton, Pandora Girl Scout Troop 20169, and a house created by Naomi Rausch, Jessica Amstutz and Amber Reese.
What a parade! The 2009 Blaze of Lights parade featured almost 70 units, making it perhaps the largest parade in the 23-year history of the event. Here are a selection of photos from the parade, including the streetscape ribbon cutting.
