The following article is part of that booklet, which is now in the history collection at the Bluffton Public Library. This series continues each week on the Icon. Several photos of the homestead are featured at the bottom of this story.
Thomas Wolfe said, “You can’t go home again.” But in rural Bluffton, you can return to the 1840s.
On Saturdays, between now and the end of August, the Swiss Historical Society opens to the public its restored Schumacher homestead at 8350 Bixel Road.
The homestead is open from 1 to 5 p.m. and a docent will show you some of the features of the home and grounds.
Visitors will see a kitchen, living area, bedrooms, basement, summer kitchen and outdoors.

In celebration of our small but mighty farmers market, the Icon will be featuring a market vendor each week over the course of the summer.
