New colon cancer screening

Colorectal cancer is a common disease, and colon cancer screening continues to be of utmost importance. Preventing cancer or detecting and removing it early when it is still localized greatly impacts colon cancer related mortality.

Cruz-in-Ada Saturday

Trophies for winners and burn-out competition for the bold

FROM ADA ICON - They are taking it to the streets on Saturday in Ada.

Last summer's Ada VFW cruz-in-Ada attracted owners of over 60 vehicles. This year's show should be just as large if not better, according to Win Hauenstein.

Here's what you need to know:
The show is from 1 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20, on Main Street, Ada. The street will be closed to through traffic during the event.

Registration is $12 and takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. A cruise is from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards are presented at 7:30 p.m.

Your rural Bluffton historical discovery

1840s Swiss homestead open to visitors on Saturdays this summer

Several photos of the homestead are featured at the bottom of this story.

Thomas Wolfe said, “You can’t go home again.” But in rural Bluffton, you can return to the 1840s.

On Saturdays, between now and the end of August, the Swiss Historical Society opens to the public its restored Schumacher homestead at 8350 Bixel Road.

The homestead is open from 1 to 5 p.m. and a docent will show you some of the features of the home and grounds.

Visitors will see a kitchen, living area, bedrooms, basement, summer kitchen and outdoors.

Community Vacation Bible School starts Sunday evening

From 6 to 8 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ

Bluffton Community Vacation Bible School starts Sunday evening at St. John's United Church of Christ. VBS runs from 6 to 8 p.m., through Thursday, July 25.

This year's theme "Hero Central" allows kids to be superheroes and discover their strengths in God.

This five-day program will be packed with songs, fun, games and bible stories. This VBS program is for youth ages four through fifth grade. 

St. John's United Church of Christ is at 223 W. College Ave.

Meet Bluffton Farmers Market vendors

Bluffton Farmers Market is the place to be on Saturday mornings in town. According to the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, our town "boasts the best farmers market in northwest Ohio."

In celebration of our small but mighty farmers market, the Icon will be featuring a market vendor each week over the course of the summer.

This week's feature vendor is Muddy River Homestead.
