Attention pie bakers: Maple Crest invites you to enter its pie contest

Maple Crest Senior Living Community, Bluffton, hosts a fall pie-baking contest, according to Darin Lee of Maple Crest. The contest is Friday, Nov. 1. Persons interested in entering must register by Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Contestants may enter as many different pies as they wish. The contest has three categories: cream, fruit, and nut pies.

Cross country: Zac Smith 37th among 140 runners at All-Ohio meet

On the rough and undulating footing of the Elvin R. King cross country course at Cedarville University, the Bluffton University cross country teams faced unseasonably high temperatures and humidity while competing in the All-Ohio Championship meet.

This huge event saw 50 women's and 48 men's teams from all three NCAA divisions as well as NAIA schools compete simultaneously against each other.

Rainy reign

This was the pre-game scene at Harmon Field on Friday night. A downpour cancelled the Bluffton High School homecoming parade, but the festivities went on.  Sophia Marcum (center) and Noah Stratton were announced as this year's homecoming king and queen. Bluffton Child Development Center seeks subs and sponsor for 3-year-old classroom

The Bluffton Child Development Center, 325 County Line Road, has two immediate needs, according to Lauren Osting, director.

First, the Center is in desperate need of subs. “I need subs willing to work flexible hours anywhere from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.," said Osting.

“One additional need we have at the Center is the need for a sponsor for our 3-year-old classroom. For $500 a business, group, individual or organization can become sponsor for the classroom. During the school year the sponsorship provides the room with supplies,” She said.

Free therapy screen available at Northwest Physical Therapy in October

Northwest Physical Therapy, Inc. will be offering free therapy screens to the public during the month of October. These screens will be available at all four outpatient locations in Bluffton, Delphos, Ottawa and Lima.

A physical therapy screening takes approximately 10-15 minutes and will be performed by a licensed clinician. A therapy screening helps identify issues that may be causing unnecessary pain.

Bluffton University will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 10-13, including a day filled with activities for alumni and the community on Saturday, Oct. 12.
