BFR Halloween party winners: Who was that masked man?

Over 55 youth dressed up for Halloween at BFR's community Halloween party on Sunday, according to Carole Enneking, BFR Sports and Fitness director.

Costume contest winners:

0-3 years: Mason Walters - Dr. Seuss
4-6 years: Kendall Schultz - Fireman
7-10 years: Chole Beckman - MindCraft
11+ years: Julia Smallcomb - Sailor Girl

Martha Beach was a retired Triplett Corp. employee

 

Martha Jane Beach, 91, of Jenera died at 6:10 a.m. Oct. 28, 2013 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  She was born March 13, 1922, in Monroe Township, Allen County to Clarence and Esther Slusser Jones. On Jan. 13, 1951 she married Eugene W. Beach and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1973.

Mrs. Beach retired from Triplett Corp., Bluffton. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera. She was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School.

Who Said I'm an Indian?

Guy Jones (center) speaks to faculty and students following his Oct. 22 presentation, “Who Said I’m an Indian?” at Bluffton University.

Co-founder of the Dayton, Ohio-based Miami Valley Council for Native Americans, Jones addressed stereotypical labels applied to native cultures, citing the Washington Redskins football team as an example.

“There is no honor in that name,” said Jones, a Hunkpapa Lakota. “We have been lost in translation.” He also discussed economic and educational issues for Native Americans.

Pandora United Methodist election day dinner Nov. 5

The Pandora United Methodist Church will host an election day dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 5-7 p.m. The meal will be baked steak, green beans, mashed potato and gravy, salad bar and dessert.  The cost is $7 adults, $4 3-12 year olds, free under 3 years old. The church is located on  State Route 12, Pandora.
