Mason Soper tallies season-high 25 points as BHS stops Paulding

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton shut out Paulding in the first period and went on to post a decisive 63-48 Northwest Conference boys basketball win Friday evening.

Bluffton led 10-0 after the first quarter and held a 26-17 halftime edge. The Pirates outscored the Panthers 37-31 in the second half.

Bluffton improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the NWC with the win, while the Panthers fell to 2-8 and 1-2 in the NWC with the defeat.

Genocide of the Mind

Jan. 17 Colloquium talk at Bluffton University

Dr. Melissa Michal, assistant professor of English, will share “Genocide of the Mind and Indigenous Resilience,” during a Colloquium presentation at 4 p.m. on Jan. 17 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall. 

During the presentation, Michal will discuss how genocide and trauma have affected both American Indians and non-Natives, how American Indians have found resilience through art and performativity, and how we take action to evolve curriculum and business practices to enact Haudenosaunee brotherhood.

Bluffton youth swimmers finish strong at Notre Dame invite

Bluffton youth Jackson Bowlus, June Essinger and Levin Essinger competed in the Tim Welsh Invitational Jan. 3-5, at the Rolfs Aquatic Center at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. More than 500 swimmers from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin competed.

The local swimmers are part of the Lima YMCA USA Swim Club coached by April Dorman and Jeff Bowlus. This was the team’s second appearance at the invite and a total of 10 swimmers from the area competed with the Lima team finishing 15 out of 28 teams.

Doug Schweingruber wins Icon's college football bowl contest

He wins a $20 gift certificate from Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Co.

Doug Schweingruber of Bluffton is the winner of the Icon's college football bowl contest.

Of the 102 entries, he picked the most wins at 16 (out of 19 games). He wins a $20 gift certificate from Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn Co.

Ohio state government comes to Bluffton on Monday

Governor, Lt. Governor and Senate President will sign House Bill 2 at GROB

Ohio’s state government comes to Bluffton on Monday morning.

Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted,  and OhioSenate President Larry Obhof, will visit and tour GROB Systems, Bluffton, at 9:30 a.m.

During the visit, they will sign House Bill 2, which codifies the TechCred and Industry Sector Partnerships programs and creates the Individual Microcredential Assistance Program.
