Taking it to the streets

That grinding sound you hear in Bluffton means that the 2020 street program is underway. Bluffton Stone Co. employees began working on Tuesday morning, first grinding Campus Drive, in this photo. Several additional street projects join the list soon.

Ministerial association prayer event Friday

For MMH friends and family and for Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio employees and volunteers

The Bluffton Area Ministerial Association and its ministerial partners will conduct a time of prayer and meditation for friends and family at the Mennonite Memorial Home and for the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio employees and volunteers later this week.

The event, open to the public, takes place at 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, in the parking lot of The Centre, 601 N. Main St., Bluffton.

Losing weight can seem intimidating, especially when you consider 1 in 3 American adults are obese and Ohio has an obesity rate of 33.8%. By committing to a healthier lifestyle, people can achieve weight loss and overall wellness.

Gloria Kershner of Lima, who attends the Bluffton TOPS group, has lost nearly 100 pounds through the non-profit TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a non–commercial weight loss, education and support organization.

Pettisville senior winner of full-tuition Bluffton scholarship

Pettisville High School senior Danielle King winner of full-tuition scholarship at Bluffton University

An incoming student at Bluffton University has been awarded the university’s full-tuition Presidential Scholarship, valued at more than $140,000 for four years.

Danielle King, of Wauseon, Ohio, is the February session scholarship recipient.

University alumni get price break to enroll in master's programs

Programs include • Master of Business Administration (MBA) • Master of Arts in Organizational Management (MAOM) • Master of Arts in Education (MAEd)

In recognition of the significant contributions Bluffton alumni make to the institution and in their respective communities, Bluffton University is helping graduates continue their education through the Bluffton University Alumni Master’s Degree Grant. 

Doris Palte had worked in housekeeping at Mennonite Memorial Home

Doris Elaine Palte, 81, died April 27, 2020, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.  She was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Otis and Mildred (Ernest) Fett. On Aug. 17, 1957, she married James Palte and he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2010. 

Doris graduated from Beaverdam High School. She had worked in housekeeping at the Mennonite Memorial Home. Doris was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bluffton. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and bowling.
