Community Vacation Bible School date set for 2021

Bluffton Community Vacation Bible School’s date is set for 2021.

The host congregation is St. Mary’s Catholic Church and VBS takes place there July 18-22. This year’s theme is Rocky Railway.

Plans are taking a hybrid shape with some in-person gathering in small groups outdoors under tents in some combinations with videos produced by the curriculum creators and viewed at home.

VBS planners are collecting shoeboxes for youth to decorate like train cars, to gather supplies as they move from station to. Station.

John M. Symonds II 1963 - 2021

John M. Symonds II died Jan. 16, 2021, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

John was born on April 27, 1963, to John M. Symonds I and Barbara (Wolfe) Symonds. His mother survives in Troy, Ohio. John is survived by three children, Brittany (Kenny) Owens, Wesley Symonds, and Eric (Kara) Layman. 

On Dec. 29, 2013, he married Rebecca (McCune) who survives in Lima.  

John graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1982. He studied at Lima Technical College and has spent most of his life managing restaurants.

Bluffton Swim Club 8th of 26 teams at LCC Invitational

Riley Verb wins 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:04:17

The Bluffton Swim Club participated in the LCC Holiday Invitational on Dec. 29 at the Lima YMCA. There were 26 high schools at the swim meet. 

The top three teams were Wapakoneta, Ottawa-Glandorf, and Lima Shawnee.  Bluffton finished in eighth place out of 26 teams.

• Landon Armstrong finished with a fifth place in the 200 meter medley relay, seventh place in the 200 meter freestyle, 10th place in the 100 meter freestyle, and seventh place in the 200 meter freestyle relay.

Brandon Huber Bluffton Icon's national title game contest winner

Okay, Buckeye fans, wait ‘til next year as the saying goes.

While Ohio State did not win the national championship two contestants in the Icon’s national title game contest picked the winner and were closest to the correct point spread.

The Icon awarded one hometown pizza to an overall Bluffton winner and to one overall Ada winner. The correction point spread was 28 points.

Is my generation “soft”?

I have faith in our decency, and I hope to help people learn about why some things are considered “offensive.”

One of the characteristics that other generations use to describe Gen Z is “soft.”  Maybe that’s true.

I do believe that we are more sensitive than other generations. Our generation wants to set boundaries. Many members of Generation Z want to create an environment where people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, and races feel safe.  We live in a free country. As a patriot, I believe that we need to respect people’s individual liberties that do not harm others.
