No middle school trip to D.C. this spring

"With all the current unknowns of the current pandemic, we unfortunately have decided to cancel the trip this year for both current 8th graders and current freshmen students"

Bluffton middle school eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C., will not take place this year, according to Josh Kaufman, middle school principal The following message concerning the trip is on the school website.

Recently, we have been in contact with the travel company, Prodigy Student Travel, who we were scheduled to take our combined 8th/9th grade field trip to Washington, D.C., in May.

With all the current unknowns of the current pandemic, we unfortunately have decided to cancel the trip this year for both current 8th graders and current freshmen students.

Dave Bracy's number 1 trout catch

I asked dad what number it was and I thought he was going to have a heart attack right then and there.

Dave Bracy recalls:  During the 1974 derby, I was fishing with my family in our usual spot, right across from the shelter house. Halfway through the derby I suddenly got a hit on my daredevil lure.

Remi Bower Heartland VB offensive player of the week

Remi Bower of Deshler, and member of the Bluffton University volleyball team was named the offensive player of the week in the Heartland Conference.

Bower led the Beavers to a pair of 5-set wins over Earlham on Friday night. She finished with 26 kills in her 8 sets for 3.25 KPS. She also led the Beavers with 8 aces, while adding 3 blocks and 14 digs.

The defensive play was Amber Miller of Hanover.

Sam Luke scholarship recipient at U of Findlay

Sam Luke, Bluffton HS graduate, was awarded an endowed scholarship at the University of Findlay for the 2020-2021 academic year. He is recipient of the Marathon Petroleum Corporation ESOH Operating Scholarship.

216 games balls made in Ada are now in the hands the two remaining NFL playoff teams

FROM ADA ICON - Fourteen lucky Ada Wilson's Sporting Goods employees had their own Super Bowl party on Sunday night that lasted into the wee hours of Monday.

According to Andy Wentling, plant manager, the “super” crew worked into the early morning hours at the Ada facility to create the official 2021 Super Bowl footballs. 

“We had dies for the four teams in Sunday’s playoff games ready to use,” he said. “By 10:30 p.m., as soon as the games were over and the winners were determined our crew went to work.”
