Discolored water problems on Grove, Lawn and Poplar streets don’t seem to go away. J. D. Yoder and Mike Edmiston of Grove Street asked Bluffton council on Monday to get the problem fixed as soon as possible.
Yoder showed samples of water from his faucet from today – the water resembled the color of cider. Edmiston showed particles of rust from his water and shared photos of discolored sinks caused by the rusty water.
Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, told council that the discoloration problems on these streets are persisting and even seem to be worsening.
“We are flushing the lines in that area at least once a week,” he said, “sometimes more, based on reports and complaints of discolored water. We are continuing to search for resolutions. I will meet with Choice One Engineering soon to review the in-process preliminary layout for the waterline replacement project for this area.”
The village plans to replace the existing cast iron water lines from the 1930s on Grove, Lawn and Jackson.
Even if the project was placed on the “fast track” it could March or April 2012 before a replacement project could get underway, according to Mayor Fred Rodabaugh.
Council passed the second reading of a proposed golf cart regulation ordinance. Part of the ordinance is now subject to change. The Ohio State legislature is considering golf cart legislation. The village intends to have its ordinance in line with the state’s.
Council was notified of two businesses making requests for liquor licenses. The businesses are Tu Pueblo, Main Street, and Dollar General on Citizens Parkway.
i was wondering, i have had a water softner for 10 years and finally about 6 months ago i stopped using it because i thought the water would be good enough now. i was wrong. i have noticed rust spots in the tub and sinks. do i start using it again and continue to pay the high prices for our water or do i keep it off and have to scrub every week? give me some input. thanks
i have noticed that all the complaints are coming from residence of bluffton. why havent the mayor or anybody on the council responded? are they a bunch of cowards that cant admit that they screwed up and are costing bluffton people alot of money. i hope at the next council meeting the whole town shows up and rips them a new one. step up to the plate mayor.
You lost my respect with "ripping someone a ...." This is an important issue. Please clean up the tone of your comments!
Cowards??? Are you not the one making comments anonymously? Pot, meet kettle....

I agree that there must be an expedited solution to this ever increasing problem. Since the promise of reduced costs associated with the new water I have had numerous problems. My waterline had to be replaced, my clothing has been ruined, my water softener had been clogged so badly that I can no longer use one, and I am still buying bottled water because I cannot tolorate to drink brown water. It surprises me that it has taken this long for the issue to be addressed by the town. I am still waiting to see the cost savings! I really believe that it would be cheaper to build our own treatment facility rather than be subjected to increasing costs for the water we receive from Ottawa. I believe that there will be a 4 percent increase each year for the next several years. Didn't Council agree to a set rate.
I guess the mayor should have thought of the price of new pipes before having a new water supply ran in take a loan out for the new pipes why not our country is already in debt!
i thought water from ottawa was suppossed to be so much better, i dont think so. should have built our own reservoir and sold it to other towns. now we have to pay and it went up this month. and for what? rusty water. thats crap. council get doing your jobs or your out.
I agree - waiting until April 2012 to deal with this is not acceptable. Council has been aware of this for some time. Meanwhile we are forced to pay for water we can't even use!
Looks like someone needs to run against Mr Fullcomer. Do we really want a current council member to run our town? Someone step up please!
i think the village council should worry more about the water people have to use everyday and less about golf carts, heck the village uses one and so do the police, what happened to the bike patrol?
THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE........REPLACE THE LINES AND START OUR OWN RESEVOIR INSTEAD OF GETTING WATER FROM A TOWN THAT HAS WATER JUST AS BAD AS WHAT WE HAD BEFORE!!!!
I cant believe with the high prices we have to pay that this rust colored water is our results. The response was hopefully in April 2012? I think we need to consider when these council members term limits expire if their is someone better to do the job.
I think we should all start sending our bills to the Village for replacement of our toilets, shower curtains, clothes, and rust-remover products used to clean these. Or we could just deduct these amounts from our water bill each month. I would imagine if one of our councilmen or mayor lived on one of these streets, the problem would receive immediate action.
