Rick Davies was retired from Lima Ford Plant

A 1963 Bluffton HS graduate, his brother Morgan died on Jan. 28

Richard “Rick” M. Davies, 75, died after a brief illness on Feb. 4, 2021, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. He was born April 3, 1945, in Bluffton to the late Richard and Vernice (McElroy) Davies.

Rick was a 1963 graduate of Bluffton High School. He had worked at the Little Red Barn in Bluffton and retired from the Lima Ford Engine Plant.

About 60 years ago, more or less, I received a polio vaccine delivered in a sugar cube.

This was administered twice, on different Sundays after church services, in the multi-purpose room of the Bluffton elementary school.

I recall walking from First Methodist Church to the school to stand in line for the vaccine. I can’t remember who gave me the sugar cubes.

And, about four hours ago, I received the first of two covid-19 vaccinations. Jane Agner, nurse at Bluffton Hospital, gave me the vaccine.

The first half of the 2020-2021 school year has gone very well, considering we are in a pandemic.

Et Cetera Shop closed today (Friday, Feb. 5) due to weather conditions

The Et Cetera Thrift Shop, 327 N. Main St., Bluffton, is closed today (Friday, Feb. 5) due to the weather conditions, according to Chrissy Lugibihl, manager.

“Due to the weather conditions and to ensure the safety of you, our customers and donors, and our volunteers, the Et Cetera Shop will be closed today for both shopping and donations,” she told the Icon.
