Let the tournament begin

Bluffton High School boys' basketball team enter Division III tournament play this week. The Pirates face Carey at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Elida Fieldhouse. That winner faces Coldwater Friday night at 8 p.m. at Elida. Bluffton girls bowed out of the sectional losing to Coldwater 58-39.

Hymn sing at March 1 PrimeTimers

The next PrimeTimers event is on Tuesday, March 1, at St. John Mennonite Church, 15988 Road 2, Pandora.  

PrimeTimers is a non-denominational, community fellowship gathering for adults 55 and over hosted at St. John Mennonite Church in Pandora. This event will feature a hymn sing, with Dr. Joyce Jackson accompanying on piano.

The meal will include: baked ham, scalloped potatoes, glazed carrots, dinner rolls, coleslaw, cupcakes and coffee. There is no cost for the event, but donations are accepted.

Burl "Jerry" Moyer was a 1948 Bluffton HS grad

Burl J. “Jerry” Moyer, 86, of Pandora died at 11 p.m., Feb. 21, 2016 at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. Jerry was born June 6, 1929,in Findlay to Burl J. Moyer and Ruth West Moyer. On June 13, 1965 he married Delores Hanna and she survives.

School superintendent outlines need for income tax renewal on March 15

On March 15, the Bluffton Exempted Village School District is seeking the renewal ½ % income tax for permanent improvements. This is not a new tax; it is a renewal of an existing tax for three years.

Koenig and Parkins all-NWC girls' first team

Two Bluffton High School girls' basketball player, both underclassmen, were named first team all-Northwest Conference, as voting was recently completed by league coaches.

Alivia Koenig, freshman, and Abbie Parkins, junior, were named to the first team. In addition, another underclassman, Andie Schmutz, junior, was named honorable mention.

Bluffton finished third in the NWC with a 6-2 record. The team, loaded with underclassmen, went 15-6 overall.
