Beaver lose final home game of season to Franklin 10-0

The Bluffton University football team played host to conference foe Franklin College on Nov. 9, in what was the final home contest of the year for the Beavers.

The Bluffton offense struggled on offense, not scoring a point during the contest which resulted in a 10-0 Franklin victory. Bluffton fell to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Franklin improved to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month and the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) slogan this year is, “Don’t Lose Your Nerve to Diabetes.”

More than 30 million Americans are living with diabetes, and peripheral neuropathy, or nerve damage in the feet, is one of the most common—and most serious—complications of the disease. Nerve damage causes burning, tingling, heaviness or numbness in the feet and affects up to 70 percent of all diabetic patients.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then Facebook’s cup runneth over today.

As I scrolled through my feed I saw post after post of joyful faces celebrating an improbable run by the Bluffton High School boys' soccer team.

Not only did they beat the 1st and 3rd ranked teams in the state to get to this point, but they also won four straight overtime games: three in sudden death overtime and one in a shootout.

Tyson Shutler football 1st team All-NWC

7 Pirates honored in coaches voting

Seven Bluffton football players earned All-Northwest Conference notice in voting recently conducted by the league coaches.

Junior speedster Tyson Shutler was named first team all-league at defensive back.

Senior fullback Tucker Neff was named to the second team all-conference offense. He ran for over 1,200 yards and set a school single-game record with 313 yards rushing at Ada.

Senior lineman McCormick Ault was also voted second team all-league on offense.

Folk ensemble performs Tuesday at the library

Join a local folk ensemble Silver Threads among the Gold perform at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Bluffton Public Library, for a set of ballads, both traditional and modern.

"We'll sing you stories of explorers, cross-dressers, soldiers, piccolo players, truck drivers, cowboys and coal miners set to an underlying accompaniment of haunting fiddle tunes and hymns,” said Wendy Chappell-Dick, a member of the group.
