3 lights in the windows

In the Icon's holiday nighttime window shopping walk in downtown Bluffton, we came across three brightly-lighted trees in windows facing Main Street in Bluffton High School.

Main Street Bluffton 1958-59

Did you know that in 1958-59 there was a hotel on the second floor of what is today Reichenbach Steiner CPA?

That's where the "Hotel" sign hangs in this Main Street photo from six decades ago.

We'll allow your mind to wonder up and down Main Street as you check out this photo.

It looks like a 1955 Mercury is parked along the street. We'll consider that every vehicle in the photo was a V-8 lead-gas-only gas gussler.

Letter from Mayor Johnson: It has been a very challenging and interesting year

2021 is right around the corner and the village is optimistic and hopeful that we will continue to make Bluffton successful and prosperous.

To each and every one of you in the Village of Bluffton:

Here we are almost in the end of 2020. It has been a very challenging and interesting year to say the least. No matter what each of us faced in our personal lives or professionals lives, basically covid-19 consumed our lives, for the majority of 2020. I believe I can speak for most, to say this was something never experienced in our lifetime, and never want to experience again.

Jupiter and Saturn will be easy to see with the unaided eye by looking toward the southwest just after sunset

Forgotten Bluffton's "firsts"

The first motorized vehicle, radio, airplane, piped water and electricity in a house

Ever wonder who owned the first motorized vehicle in Bluffton? Or, who had the first radio?

How about, who had the first running water hookup, electicity in a house? And, when was the first airplane spotted over Bluffton?

These obscure fact have answers. For the record, here goes:
• Frank Scott, a Bluffton banker, owned the first automobile in Bluffton. The exact date of the purchase is not known, but when he traded it in on his second car in 1904, it was mention in the Bluffton News of his having owned a car for “sometime now."
