Bluffton Farmer's Market 2020 plans already underway

Vendor meeting in March, opening day first Saturday in May

New and returning vendors are invited to a meeting with Bluffton Farmers Market manager Greg Probst at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31.

The meeting will take place on the third floor of Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main St. That evening, vendors will learn about promotional opportunities and may reserve full-year spaces at a discounted price.

Located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot in downtown Bluffton, the Bluffton Farmers Market is open on Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - noon, May through October.​

Artist of the month: "Art is something that can never bore me"

Sophia Smucker is the Bluffton Icon's Bluffton High School artist of the month.

The BHS senior has taken many art courses including art 1, Design 1, Design 2, and now Art Seminar.

"After high school I planto attend Goshen College to pursue a major in social work," she said. "I enjoy art as a way to express myself and while doing so, I'm able to spend time with my friends. Art is something that can never bore me."  

Vickie Garmon is the Bluffton High School art teacher.

Pirates bid "good knight" to Crestview

This was the scene in the Crestview gym on Saturday. Bluffton's 7th grade boys beat the host squad to win the Northwest Conference title. The win capped a 19-0 season. Click here for game photos and a recap of the season.

What was the groundhog thinking on Feb. 2?

This month's temperatures so far range from a high of 61 - on the day after Groundhog's Day - to a low of 6 all of 10 days later.

Then, there's that snow and ice that caused so many delays. In all, we had 3.7 inches of snow and .38 inches of ice in a two-day period of Feb. 12-13.

University concert band performs Feb. 23

Bluffton University will host an instrumental concert featuring its Concert Band at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. Roy Couch, assistant professor of music, the concert band will perform pieces featuring reference to diversity in American culture and a global perspective on peace.
