Pirate boys edged by Elida in squeaker

ELIDA - Homestanding Elida outscored Bluffton by six points in the second half to pull out a close 64-60 victory in non-conference boys basketball action Tuesday night. 

The Pirates trailed 15-12 after the first period, but Bluffton rallied to grab a 31-29 edge at intermission as Carson Soper scored eight second-period points. 

Elida inched in front 47-46 after three periods of play. The Bulldogs then canned 10 of 15 fourth period foul shots to win the quarter 17-14 and hold on for the four-point victory.

Waterford Hotel Group to manage ONU’s The Inn

Connecticut-based company manages 36 hotels in 9 states

Ohio Northern University has announced that hospitality corporation Waterford Hotel Group is now handling management of The Inn at Ohio Northern University, 401 W. College Ave. The transition took place on Jan. 18.

Waterford Hotel Group, a Connecticut-based industry leader for more than 30 years, manages 36 hotels in nine states, such as a Westin in Columbus and a Comfort Inn in Piqua and on college campuses such as Amherst College, Williams College and Gettysburg College.

Heartland adjusts fan attendance policy

In an announcement made prior to the first championships of the 2020-21 academic year, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) adjusted its current fan policy as it relates to attendance at indoor athletic events on its member institutional campuses following a vote of the Council of Presidents.
 

Icon asks congregations for Ash Wednesday information

The beginning of the Christian season of Lent is on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. The Icon invites local congregations to provide Ash Wednesday and mid-week Lent services scheduled.

Icon: You graduated from Bluffton in 2019. What have you been doing since then?
I’ve been attending Ohio Northern University studying for a degree in computer science.

What are your goals after you graduate?
Hopefully to get a job as a computer programmer.

What is your number one pet peeve?
Probably when people chew with their mouth open.
