Recycling in Bluffton adds a victory lap

Rumpke now accepts polypropylene plastic tubs: plastic bottles, jugs and other containers  • butter, sour cream and cottage cheese tubs • yogurt and fruit cups

Bluffton recycling bins are about to become tubbier, and it’s a good thing, according to Rumpke Waste and Recycling.

Rumpke, the contractor for Bluffton waste and recycling collection, announced this month an  expansion what it accepts as recycled items.

The addition includes polypropylene plastic tubs. These products are labeled #5. (Please note that not all #5 items may be recycled, however.)

Always Right Driving School holds 2-week class session

Always Right Driving School, 205  N. High St., Columbus Grove, announces a two-week driver’s education class in January and February in Columbus Grove with class times from 5 to 9:10 p.m. Classes are Jan. 25-26-27 and Feb. 1-2-3.

Three area students are on the Tiffin University fall dean’s list.  To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a 3.50+ GPA for the semester.

On the Rhodes State College dean's list

The following area students are on the fall Rhodes State College dean’s list. Full-time students must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and earn a 3.5 grade point or higher. Part-time students must be enrolled in at least 6 but not more than 11 credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade or higher.

Beaver is Heartland Conference player of the week

 Junior Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) was named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week following a weekend sweep of rival Defiance College.

Gillig went for a game-high 28 points on 4-of-5 shooting from distance in Bluffton's 80-67 win at Defiance on Friday night. She netted 18.5 PPG over the weekend in the Bluffton victories. Gillig also pulled down seven rebounds per game while knocking down 14-of-25 from the field.

Bluffton returns to action next Friday, Jan. 22, when the Beavers travel to Earlham College for a 5 p.m. tip in Richmond, Ind.

Oh, the stories it could tell

Art is everywhere, even in a half-century old fallen Bluffton tree. We tried counting the rings and became lost between 50 and 60. So, sometime in the early 1960s this tree was an acorn, so to speak.
