Danny J. McDougle 1953-2012

Danny J. “Crazy Dog” McDougle, 58, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 1:30 p.m at his residence in Dola, Ohio.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1953 in Kenton, Ohio, to Thomas Jay and Ruby Eleanor (Sparrow) McDougle. His father survives in Dunkirk, Ohio, and his mother preceded him in death.

Mr. McDougle worked for Tower Automotive, Bluffton. He was a graduate of Hardin Northern High School.  He was a member of the NRA, National Muzzle Loaders Association, Liberty Conservation Club and Disabled Veterans of America.

Their first Marathon

Amy and Jared Byers completed their first full Marathon on Sunday, May 20.  They ran the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and despite temperatures in the 80’s they finished smiling.

Chad Cupples speaker at May 28 Memorial Day observation; parade at 9 a.m.

Bluffton will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 28. The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will lead a parade from the town hall to Maple Grove Cemetery. Chad Cupples of Bluffton is this year's speaker.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. Persons interested in participating should be at the town hall at 8:45 a.m.

The Bluffton American Legion Post honor guard will lead the parade
followed by the Bluffton High School band.

Isaac Schumacher of Bluffton, a sophomore graphic design major at Bluffton University, loves to sketch and draw.

“When I was a kid, I liked to do little cartoons,” he said. “Even though I never believed it would become an actual career, it has always been a passion of mine.”

Little did he know that his talents are helping students in classrooms all over Ohio this spring.

Still time to join Bluffton Senior Citizens trip to Hawaii

The Bluffton Senior Center is traveling to the Hawaiian Islands from Sept. 1 to 12 and you are invited.

The group will be travel with Country Travels Discoveries who will take the group to the big sites in Hawaii as well as several farms.

Three islands will be visited, Oahu, the Big Island and Maui. Volcanoes National Park, the USS Arizona Memorial and the Pacific Hilo Tsunami Museum and some of the sites that will be visited. There will also be plenty of time to relax on the beach.

Apollo student-built house going up for auction in June

Apollo Career Center Carpentry and Construction and Equipment Technology classes are putting the finishing touches on Apollo's student-built house.

Open houses will be held June 3, from 1-3 p.m. The stone and vinyl ranch is is located on a wooded lot in Cridersville at 723 Briarwood. The interior includes three bedrooms, two full baths, Granite countertops and custom cabinets. It will be offered at public auction Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m.

Bridge Hospice hosting Camp S.T.A.R.

Bridge Hospice Bereavement Services, Findlay, will be hosting its annual bereavement camp for children, Camp S.T.A.R., June 11-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brugeman Lodge at Riverbend Park in Findlay.

Camp S.T.A.R., which stands for Special Times Always Remembered, is a four-day bereavement camp for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Campers participate in fun, traditional camp activities combined with grief and loss education. Together, campers realize they are not alone with some of the questions and feeling they have been facing.

Bluffton athletic physicals for next year underway

Bluffton students interested in participating in sports next year can have their physicals taken starting today from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Today’s physicals are for grades 10 through 12.

High school seniors are encouraged to arrive by 4:15 p.m. Eleventh graders by 5 p.m. and tenth graders by 5:45 p.m.

Boys’ physicals will take place at the Bluffton Medical Center, 161 Garau St. in the Woodruff offices.

Girls’ physicals will take place at Bluffton Physicians, 132 Garau St. in Dr. Shelly’s office.

Workshop to strengthen Excel, accounting skills

 

Bluffton University will offer a three-week workshop on campus and in Piqua and Archbold during July to help participants strengthen their Excel skills and develop understanding of core financial statements.

Pirate tracksters roar into regional; girls win district, boys finish fifth

Bluffton High School girls’ track team added another significant piece of hardware to the BHS trophy case as they won the Liberty Benton District III track meet Saturday.

The girls team scored 92 points to edge second place Waynesfield with 88. Third was Carey with 71.4 and fourth, Columbus Grove with 58.
