COLUMBUS - Two Bluffton athletes and a 4 x 400 relay foursome competed in day one of the Div. III track and field state meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on Friday.

In the 300 hurdles, Pirate Xavier Dunifon qualified out of the preliminary heats Friday into the finals Saturday. He took second in his heat and was fourth overall in a field of 18 with a time of 40.13.

Anthony Tyler of Africentric took first in the 300 hurdle heats at 39.08.

Construction begins Monday

Jefferson Street closed from Main to County Line

Jefferson Street will close from Main Street to the County Line Road beginning Monday, June 3, in a major renovation of the street.

“The extent of this project will be from Main Street to the west side of the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, which covers a distance of roughly 1,300 feet,” Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, told The Icon.

15 minutes with Alee Gratz-Collier

About starting her own business - River Valley Pasta

Alexandria (Alee) Gratz-Collier graduated from BHS in 2004, and went to college at Woodbury University in Burbank, California. She (along with her business partner) is the force behind River Valley Pasta, a home-made pasta company.

The Icon sat down with Gratz-Collier to hear a bit more about her life and business venture.

What have you been up to since graduating from BHS? Where are you based now?
Since college, I have been working in the service industry in Findlay. No kids, but a VERY proud aunt. I'm not married, and am living in Findlay.

Ebenezer offers VBS program June 2-7

First local VBS of the summer

Ebenezer Mennonite Church will hold its Vacation Bible School next week, Sunday, June 2 to Friday, June 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This is traditionally the first local VBS program in the area. 

This year's theme "Roar!: Life is wild - God is good" involves activity-filled evenings, for six days, Sunday through Friday, at 8905 Columbus-Grove Rd, Bluffton.

This popular program averages over two hundred kids in attendance.

The VBS is for youth ages 4 through fifth grade inclusive.  Since the program starts on Sunday, please just come on Sunday evening to register.

The Icon invites churches in its viewership area to submit Vacation Bible School information for posting.
