Girls' bball: Pirates bury Ada 61-26

Bluffton’s full court pressure fueled two huge first half runs enabling the Pirates to coast to a 61-26 victory in the opening Northwest Conference game for both teams.  BHS scored 11 straight points in the first quarter to take a 13-2 lead and followed it up with an 18-0 burst early in the second quarter to push the lead out to 36-12.  Bluffton’s press defense forced 13 first half turnovers as BHS went to the locker room with a 36-15 advantage.

John Estell co-authors engineering design book

Bluffton resident Dr. John K. Estell, ONU professor of computer engineering and computer science, is co-author of the new book, "Engineering Design and the Product Life Cycle: Relating Customer Needs, Societal Values, Business Acumen, and Technical Fundamentals," published by Momentum Press.

The book attempts to answer the question of “What is good design?” by exploring some of the fundamental principles associated with design. It also examines engineering design in a broader context through means of the product life cycle.

America in Bloom subject of Friday's chamber breakfast

Bluffton's feedback from America in Bloom judges is the program of Friday morning's Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast. Susie Stratton of Stratton's Greenhouses is the speaker.

The breakfast is served from 7 to 7:30 a.m. in the town hall.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Breakfast provider: Anita Willow, Anita's Sweets and Treats

Other items on the program include a Blaze of Lights recap, member announcements and announcement of a January after-hours event.
 

Greg's Pharmacy becomes CVS Pharmacy on Monday

Business will retain all employees and will offer wider selection of merchandise

Greg’s Pharmacy, 126 N. Main St., will close at 4 p.m. on Friday. It will reopen Monday morning as a CVS Pharmacy.

CVS purchased the pharmacy from Clark’s RX Pharmacies, which has owned the downtown business since Jan. 1, 2012.

According to Greg’s Pharmacy Facebook:

“We would like to announce to our community that Greg's Pharmacy will be converting to a CVS Health Pharmacy. We will be closing Friday Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. and remain closed through the weekend for renovations before reopening Monday, Dec. 11, as CVS Health.

Bluffton would not be the same without Joy Stemen's impact

Joy Stemen is winner of the Icon's George/Georgiana Bailey Award. Had she not existed, Bluffton wouldn't be the same. As the winner, Joy will select $100 worth of books in her name to be purchased by the Icon for the Bluffton Public Library.

Meet Bluffton’s Georgiana Bailey, a.k.a. Joy Stemen.

If she never existed, well, Bluffton would not be same without her impact.

Many people know the 2001 Bluffton High School graduate as a licensed massage therapist (LMT).

Beavers roll 84-56 at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University women's basketball team dominated Earlham College 84-56 in the first game for the Beavers since November 26. Earlham fell to 1-5 and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC.
