Lola Leiber, 82, of Bluffton died June 1, 2020, at her residence.  Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Join a conversation with Paula Scott and Fred Steiner

Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE) invites Icon viewers to join in a virtual coffee hour as Paula Scott talks with Fred Steiner of the Bluffton Icon and Ada Icon at noon on Tuesday, June 2.

"We'll be discussing what's new with local businesses," said Scott, BCE director. "And, we have lots to talk about."

The conversation will also touch on some new features on the Icons and some behind the scenes look at how the Icon handles local news coverage during the business shutdown.

Walk of silence tonight remembering George Floyd

Starting at the university peace stones, going to Main Street

An informal walk of silence is planned in Bluffton tonight to show solidary with the movement remembering George Floyd, who was killed in Minneapolis last week.

Planners will start their walk at 8 p.m. at the peace stones near the Bluffton University Sauder Visual Arts building. They will walk to the Citizens National Bank parking lot on South Main Strreet and will arrive by 8:22 p.m.

On Main Street will be music and a moment of brief sharing.

Bluffton's newest fashion statement

Bluffton's newest fashion statement appears to be a face mask. Mandy Kinn of Spectrum Salon, 422 N. Main St., wear hers while working with a customer. Spectrum has reopened and is taking appointments at 419-358-0556.

Sportsmen's Club will stock Cobb Lake

No tagged trout; club house open June 7 selling memberships, raffle tickets

The recent flooding of the Buckeye quarry has altered fish stocking plans for this year, according to Tom Augsburger, president of the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club. 

Augsburger said that the club will only place trout in Cobb Lake (National Quarry). No trout will be tagged this year.

Persons who fish in the Buckeye or National must be a sportsmen’s club member.

On Sunday June 7, the clubhouse (Bluffton depot on Spring Street near the Buckeye) will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for memberships and ticket sales.
