Friends of the Library book sale runs now through Saturday

The annual Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale runs from Wednesday to Saturday at the Bluffton Public Library's lower level.

It offers a large collection of materials available for purchase. All proceeds go to library programs and services.

The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 5-7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 19, 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Pirate junior Olivia Barnes won at second singles by a 6-2, 6-2 score

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton doubles tandems led the host Pirate girls tennis team to a 3-2 defeat of Kenton Tuesday evening.

With their fifth straight win, the Lady Pirate netters improved to 8-4.

Pirate junior Olivia Barnes won at second singles by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Juniors Pearl Lewandowski and Julia Smallcomb combined to win at first doubles 6-1, 6-1.

Sophomores Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickels also won easily at second doubles by a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score.

Boys' soccer: Pirates, Falcons tie

Bluffton hosts non-league rival Ottawa-Glandorf Saturday

MT. BLANCHARD - The Bluffton and host Riverdale boys soccer teams played to a 0-0 tie Tuesday evening.

The tie ran the Pirate record to 8-1-1, and extended their streak of matches without a loss to seven games. Their six-match win string came to an end with the tie.

The Falcons put six of their 10 shots on goal, while the Pirates got off eight shots, three on goal.

Bluffton made six saves to three by Riverdale.

Bluffton hosts non-league rival Ottawa-Glandorf Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.

The victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 5-3-1

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton girls soccer team shut out Upper Sandusky and dominated the offensive end in a 3-0 win Tuesday evening.

The victory lifted the Lady Pirate record to 5-3-1 with the non-league win.

Kayla White gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead with a goal five minutes into the contest. Neither team scored again until the 60th minute when White found the back of the net again.

Riley Eachus scored 10 minutes later to provide the final margin of three.

Pirate spikers drop showdown to Knights

Kylie Monday knocked down seven kills and made two blocks

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton volleyball team was swept by visiting Crestview in a Northwest Conference showdown between league co-leaders Tuesday night.

The Lady Pirates fell to 9-5 and 2-1 in the NWC with the 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 defeat. Crestview improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the NWC to take sole possession of first place after the win.

Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 12 kills and three blocks. Taylor Schwab came up with 15 digs. Kylie Monday knocked down seven kills and made two blocks.

Crime Victim Services volunteer guardianship info session on Sept. 25

The next Crime Victim Services information session on volunteer guardianship is Wednesday, Sept. 25, according to Elysia Bush of Bluffton, director, Elderly Victim Ministry and CVS Guardian Programs.

The sessions take place in the CVS training room, 220 N. Elizabeth St., Lima. Sessions are offered at noon and at 6 p.m.

Bush said, “Helping a vulnerable person live to that person’s full potential deepens the reach of Allen and Putnam County’s caring community.
