HCAC Council of President’s vote to move forward to conduct winter sports competition in 2021

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) released an update regarding the league’s response to the constantly evolving COVID-19 pandemic on Friday, Nov. 13.

The HCAC Council of Presidents continues to weigh all medical information consistent with federal and state public health authorities, the NCAA, and institutional guidelines. Based on those current recommendations, the HCAC Council of President’s has voted to move forward with plans to conduct winter sports competition in 2021.

8 Beavers on D3football.com Team of the Week

The Bluffton University football team placed eight players on the D3football.com Team of the Week for their performances against Adrian College on Saturday, Oct. 24.

This is the 22nd season that D3football.com has selected the Team of the Week, which honors the top player nationally at each position from the previous week.

In this case, D3football.com considered all of the games played this fall for one award in 2020.

Bluffton Community Assistance Program assisting over 60 families this season

The Bluffton Community Assistance Program is busy this time of year.

Jami Crawfis, who directs the program's food pantry, and Ed Yeager, Community Assistance board president, provided the following details for persons, groups and organizations interested in adopting a family, an individual or interested in providing donations this holiday season.

Crawfis said that there are over 60 families receiving assistance.

Jonathan Schriner DIII soccer district player of the year

Reagan Mittendorf, Laykin Garmatter, Simon Derstine, Jude Spallinger, Colin Oglesbee also receive district honors

Senior Jonathan Schriner of Northwest Conference champion Bluffton was voted Div. III District Player of the Year by the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.

Schriner also was voted NWC Player of the Year after leading the Pirates to their sixth straight undefeated conference season.

Two other Pirates made first team all-district: senior Simon Derstine and junior Jude Spallinger.

Bluffton senior Collin Oglesbee was named second team all-district.

Ben Luginbuhl once beat Ben Roethlisberger in a game of horse

In a post-Christmas cruise around Bluffton several years ago with Ben Luginbuhl and Fred Steiner Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s name came up.

Here’s the conversation between Ben and Fred:

Just then we turned from Kibler on to Main and saw Jon Wietholder turn from Main to Kibler. Must be headed for Sunset. Seeing Jon reminded Ben that he was once on a Bluffton Little League baseball team with Ben Roethlisberger. Jon's dad, Brad, was the coach. "I beat Ben (Roethlisberger) in horse," says Ben-at-the-wheel.
