Stingy defense stops Bluffton in playoffs

4-3 Pirates have a bye week; travel to Cory-Rawson Oct. 30

SHERWOOD - Visiting Bluffton lost decisively to unbeaten third seed Sherwood Fairview 67-6 in the second round of the Div. VI, region 22 playoffs Saturday night.

The defeat snapped a four-game Pirate win streak, while Fairview improved to 7-0 with the win. Bluffton fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Fairview began the scoring with a safety 3:04 into the game and never was threatened.

Running back Luke Timbrook scored touchdowns on consecutive one-yard plunges in the first period.

Corn harvest time

While most of the 2020 soybeans are off the field, some farmers have also started removing corn. Here's a scene and video of the corn harvest at State Route 103 and Township Road 52, east of Bluffton from last week. Click here for a short video.

Both 1999 BHS soccer teams advanced to Division II regional play

This feature includes two team photos, both from the fall of 1999. Bluffton High School girls' soccer team, at 18-2-2, advanced to the Division II regional finals.

Bluffton High School boys' soccer team, at 19-2-0, advanced to the Division II regional semi-finals. The boys' team photo is at the bottom of this feature.

Forgotten Bluffton: Why does it read "Triplett 1900" above the CVS pharmacy

Will Triplett, pioneer Bluffton photographer, had the building constructed; his photo studio was on the second floor

Why does it read “Triplett 1900” on top of the building housing CVS Pharmacy at 126 N. Main St.?

The reason is that a man named Will Triplett built the building in 1900. He was the grandfather of the late Ropp and Morris Triplett. Will’s son, R.L., Triplett, founded what became the Triplett Corp., which for several decades was Bluffton largest employer.

Will A. Triplett was Bluffton's photographer for over 50 years, working here from 1881 to 1934, when he died.

Concrete evidence

Patriot Concrete employees smooth concrete as it is poured into the alley just north of Ryan DeMarco's Edward Jones office at 111 N. Main St. Bike racks will eventually be placed in the alley. In the next photo members of the Jim's Excavating staff work on ADA ramps at Main and Lake Street. For details on these projects click here.
