United Way of Greater Lima featured at Friday's chamber meeting

CEO Derek Stemen is a Bluffton University alum

Friday's Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce member meeting will feature a program by the United Way of Greater Lima, of which Bluffton is now a member, according to Paula Scott, chamber CEO. 

Attendees will meet Derek Stemen, the president and CEO of the local chapter, and learn about the new “Better Together” 2020 campaign.

Bluffton joined the Lima chapter this year and Melinda Bowden of PromoHits is serving on the campaign leadership team.

How foggy was it?

How foggy was it this morning? Well, you couldn't see the Buckeye from the bank. Here's three photos taken early this morning by Mary Pannabecker Steiner. The fog caused Bluffton schools to cancel classes.

Erik Nygaard finishes 3rd at Kalida Invitational

Bluffton boys 7th of 23 teams at cross country event

KALIDA - The Bluffton cross country teams competed at the Kalida Wildcat Invitational Saturday morning. The boys' varsity team came in 7th out of 23 teams with a score of 198.

Wilma Kempf worked at Millager's, MMH and L&K Restaurant

Wilma Joan Kempf, 91 of Bluffton, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at 6:29 a.m., Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Arlington.

Wilma was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Bluffton, to Earl and Alice (Ewing) Hamilton who preceded her in death. On she married Herbert Kempf who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1997.

Norma Jean Heinze 1929-2020

Norma Jean Heinze, 91, of Bluffton, and formerly of Mattoon, Illinois died Oct. 2, 2020, at Mennonite Memorial Home. Norma was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Mattoon, Illinois, to the late William and Bertha (Mellondorf) Bareither. On Sept. 15, 1951, she married Norman Heinze who preceded her in death on May 27, 1994.

Bluffton girl kickers blank Kalida; improve to 10-2-1

KALIDA - The visiting Bluffton girls soccer team shut out Kalida 2-0 in a non-league game late Saturday morning.

Streaking Bluffton improved to 10-2-1 overall with their ninth consecutive win. Kalida fell to 6-6 with the defeat.

The match was scoreless in the first half. 

Pirate Sami Scoles then struck for the game's first goal in the 61st minute. Clara Matthews followed with the second goal seven minutes later to put the game out of reach.

Rebekah Hoff passed out one assist for Bluffton.
