Dean Basinger was retired from Whirlpool after 40+years

Graduated from Pandora-Gilboa HS

Rolland Dean Basinger, 78, died Sept. 21, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  Dean was born Dec. 7, 1941, in Lima to the late Howard and Dorothy (Clymer) Basinger. On Dec. 28, 1963 he married Margaret Otto Basinger.

Dean was a graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School. He worked at Whirlpool Corporation - Findlay Division, for 40-plus years before his retirement. Dean was a life member of St. John Mennonite Church in Pandora.

Around the world Halloween wine sampling at The Inn Oct. 31

Reservations are being accepted now

The Inn at ONU is taking reservations for its “Around the world Halloween wine sampling” event planned in October.

The sampling is from 7:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, at The Inn, 401 W. College Ave., Ada.

The evening includes five wine samples from a selection of eight wines unique to The Inn, plus a variety of appetizers and desserts.

Wine commentary will be provided during the evening by Diana Kerr Brown, an industry wine expert. Live music is also part of the event.

Wine will be available for purchase during the evening.

Native and invasive plant species Zoom program Wednesday

Transition Bluffton and Johnny Appleseed Park District land stewards program

Join Transition Bluffton and Johnny Appleseed Park District land stewards, Anne Smedley and Austin Roby, for an informative presentation on native and invasive plant species in Bluffton.

The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom.  

Anne and Austin will share information on native plant species that enhance wildlife habitat, including information on seeding and planting. They will also discuss some of the most problematic invasive species found in our area, including techniques for removing these species.

Democrat candidate for 4th district in Bluffton tonight

Shannon Freshour, Democrat candidate for the Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District, will visit Bluffton this evening (Tuesday, Sept. 22) in a meet-the-candidate event.

She will meet voters in a “S’mores with Shannon” from, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at 216 W. Elm Street (corner Elm and Lawn). 

This event enables Bluffton voters to learn more about Freshour’s position on issues. She is running against Jim Jordan, Republican.

“Come out and meet Shannon and enjoy some s’mores,” said Kaitlyn May of the Freshour’s campaign.

Anneka Lenssen, Ada grad, publishes book on modern painting and politics in Syria

She's an associate professor of art history at Cal, Berkeley

FROM ADA ICON - An Ada High School graduate, Anneka Lenssen, has published a book to be released this month, focusing on modern painting and politics in Syria.

Lenssen, associate professor of art history at the University of California, Berkeley, said that the book, titled "Beautiful Agitation, Modern Painting and Politics in Syria," is aimed to an academic audience.
