Denecker: "Voucher plan could impact Bluffton in the future"

When these scholarships vouchers are taken to private schools, $4,650 is assigned to K-8 students while $6,000 is designated for students in grades 9-12.  When this happens, money is taken away from public school districts

Bluffton school superintendent has commented on the new school voucher plan that will impact Ohio public school. Those comments are part of the Bluffton school winter newsletter. His comments follow:

You may have seen various news reports regarding the new school voucher plan that is potentially going to impact 426 school districts in the state of Ohio.

Citizens National Bank blows out 100 candles today

Local bank opened its doors on Jan. 31, 1920

One-hundred years ago today – Jan. 31, 1920 – Citizens National Bank opened its doors for the first time in Bluffton.

 With $50,000 in capital and approximately four employees, it began a legacy of community banking now extending to 10 offices reaching 11 primary counties in Ohio and employing about 160 people. 

Each attendee at the 1920 opening received an apple in appreciation for their business. In honor of that tradition, all CNB offices will have apples available for its customers today.

NWC leader Grove stymies Lady Pirates

Libby Schaadt scores 14 for Bluffton

BLUFFTON - Visiting league leader Columbus Grove smothered Bluffton in a 42-26 Northwest Conference girls basketball slowdown showdown Thursday night.

Bluffton trailed 10-4 after one period, and Grove extended the lead to 23-12 at halftime of the low-scoring contest. CG inched ahead 32-17 after three quarters, and went on to win by 16.

Lady Pirate senior post Libby Schaadt scored 14 points to lead 
Bluffton. Kayla White added seven markers and drained the lone Pirate triple.

Climate Advocate workshop at library on Feb. 8

Are you concerned about climate change?

Become a Climate Advocate by joining the Citizen’s Climate Lobby (CCL), a nationwide bipartisan group, dedicated to lobbying Congress for climate solutions.

Anyone interested should attend the Climate Advocate Training workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the library (in the Monroe Room) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Representatives from CCL will cover their mission and values, history and successes, the structure of local chapters, and relevant skills. This workshop is part of establishing a local CCL chapter.

ONU Choreographers Showcase this weekend

Performances on Saturday and Sunday at The Freed Center

ONU School of Visual and Performing Arts presents ONU Choreographers Showcase in two performances this weekend at The Freed Center, according to Dylan Wood, director of the center.

Show times are 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2.

The evening will showcase multiple dance genres, danced by a cast of over 40 guest artists and students. From a depiction of commuters in rush hour traffic to the battle of the sexes, choreographers use the language of dance to tell stories that communicate and connect.
