David Rusmisel was a life-long dairy farmer

David C. Rusmisel, 93, died at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 12, 2012, at his residence.  He was born Nov. 24, 1918 in Allen County to Paul A. and Verna A. (Carroll) Rusmisel.  On Sept. 17, 1940, he married Margaret Lee Focht and she died Feb. 22, 2008.

Mr. Rusmisel was a dairy farmer.  He and his wife milked cows for 50-plus years.  He was an active member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Elida, for 92 years where he had served as a deacon and church board member.  He donated a heifer to Heifer Project International in the early 1960s; she was affectionately named "Pleasant Moo.".

He had served on the Allen County Dairy Service Unit, Allen County Farm Bureau Board, Lewis Grove Cemetery Board, Farmer’s Elevator Board, Beaverdam, worked in the milk tent at the Allen County Fair, had a keen interest in genealogy and could trace his roots back to Adam and Eve. He graduated from Lima Senior High School and attended Manchester College.

Survivors include two sons Dan (Jill) Rusmisel of Lanark, Ill., Ray (Vicki) Rusmisel of Johnstown, Ohio; three daughters Rebecca (Tim) Blake of Chandiragh, India, Joyce (John) Zwiebel of Lima; Laura (Robert) Bryant of Huntsville; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and a sister, Reba Bame, of Findlay.

A daughter Patricia Wood preceded him in death.

A celebration of life service will be 11a.m. Nov 24, 2012, on what would have been his 94th birthday, at Pleasant View Church 4940 N. Thayer Road, Lima.  Rev. Mark Bowyer officiating.  Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church and following the service at the fellowship meal. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Allen County 4-H Funding or Heifer Project International.
