MHCO provides Swiss Community Historical Society with $4,000 Heritage Center gift

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) presented a $4,000 gift to the Swiss Community Historical Society for its Heritage Center capital campaign.  The gift was made during the Society’s annual Swiss Day program.

Laura Voth, CEO of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, presented the check to Gary Wetherill of the Society.

The occasion was the fulfillment of a 2010 commitment when MHCO unexpectedly received a large gift from the estate of James and Frieda Basinger.

Lima Symphony Orchestra performs free patriotic pops concert July 4 at ONU

FROM THE ADA ICON - Patriotic classics, American standards, and popular movie and Broadway tunes will highlight the Lima Symphony Orchestra’s Fourth of July “Patriotic Pops” celebration on the campus of Ohio Northern University. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will take place on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls. This will be a fun-filled family event exploding with patriotic music and a tribute to our armed services. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Firecracker Friday cookout at First National Bank

First National Bank celebrates July 4th one day early with its annual Firecracker Friday Cookout (on July 3). The cookout includes hot dogs, chips, drinks and more.

Open to the public, the cookout is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the bank parking lot, 112 Cherry St., Bluffton.

Community VBS invites all youths ages 4 through fifth grade to attend

Seven area churches are preparing for a community-wide vacation Bible school program to be held Sunday, July 19, through Thursday, July 23, at Bluffton Presbyterian Church. 

Children age 4 through 5th grade are welcome to attend without any fee.  The VBS program will meet each night from 6-8 p.m.

Early registration is recommended by Sunday, July 12; registration will be available on the first night of VBS.  Forms are available at each church and on Facebook.

Maple Crest antique appraisal program July 13

Do you have a family heirloom in the closet? Do you wonder what it’s worth? 

Maple Crest Senior Living Village, 700 Maple Crest Court,  Bluffton, will host an “Antiques Roadshow” style program on Monday, July 13, at 6:30 p.m. in its Patio Room. 

This free event is open to the public. Guests are invited to bring one or two items to be appraised. (No coins, stamps, or weapons.) Items will be placed on display in the front of the room. 

Guest antique appraiser Anne Stratton will be present and will randomly select items on display to discuss and appraise.
