"Well" comic and touching play tickets on sale Monday

Tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 14, for Bluffton University’s fall production of “Well,” by Lisa Kron.

Dr. Melissa Friesen, a professor and chair of communication and theatre at Bluffton, will direct the show, being staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7-9 and at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in Ramseyer Auditorium in College Hall. Reserved tickets, $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for senior citizens (65 and over) and non-Bluffton students, are available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu or at the door.

Kron is protagonist as well as playwright of “Well,” a comic and touching play in which she mines her own experiences to explore the complexities of healing and the difficulties of empathizing with someone else’s pain.

Despite suffering from mysterious symptoms she attributes to “allergies,” Kron’s mother, Ann, is a force of nature, organizing a racially integrated neighborhood in Lansing, Mich., in the late 1960s while also charming with her warmth. Ann’s questions, surprise characters and the waning support of the other actors soon undermine Lisa Kron’s artistic control and threaten to derail the play.

Cast members include Amanda Bartel, a sophomore from Iowa City, Iowa; Meg Leatherman, a senior from Hesston, Kan.; Victoria Jackson, a first-year student from Fort Jennings, Ohio; Diamond Dailey, a first-year student from Wapakoneta, Ohio; Ryan Laidlaw, a junior from Lima, Ohio; Alex Parker, a sophomore from Alger, Ohio; and Daila Moore, a junior from Bluffton. Another student, Rebecca Juliana, a sophomore from Mechanicsburg, Pa., is the stage manager.

Mervin Schrock and Joan Bauer, both of Findlay, Ohio, are the technical director and costume director, respectively.
