It's Fall Festival Saturday in Bluffton!

The Bluffton community’s 11th annual Fall Festival, with many family-oriented activities, takes place throughout the community on Saturday, Sept. 27, according to Daren Lee of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, who coordinates the festival.

Here’s the schedule:

CR summer reading incentive: a ride in the fire truck

Cory-Rawson students in grades K-3 were given a summer calendar and reading goals to help them practice their reading skills over the summer months.

The top participants were rewarded with a ride on the Union Township-Mt.Cory Fire Truck and were then congratulated by the entire K-4 student body. The middle level of partpicipants recieved a special lunch with a school adult of thier choice. All students received an ice cream party.

Oct. 4 benefit for Missy Bishoff

The Ebenezer Mennonite Youth are having a pancake breakfast benefit for Missy Bishoff at the Campus Life Building across from the high school on Saturday October 4, 2014 from 8am-11am.

There will be a free will donation and also a cinnamon roll bake sale. Proceeds will go directly to the Bishoff family.

University speaker: Math educator defends Common Core

The immediate past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics said Sept. 23 that she thinks “there’s a lot of misunderstanding” about the Common Core State Standards for math.

Speaking at Bluffton University, Linda Gojak addressed several of the points of contention with the Common Core. The national standards—for English and language arts as well as math—have been adopted by most states but have since been repealed by some and are being contested in others.

Community meals at Senior Center on Oct. 2 and 16

Two community meals are planned in October. Both are at 6 p.m. at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

The October 2 meal will be served by Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio. The October 16  meal will be served by St. John's United Church of Christ. Meals are open to the public with no admission charge. Donations are accepted and go to the Bluffton Food Pantry.

Celebrating our hometown of Bluffton, Ohio, our people and our students as we come together this weekend to celebrate the Fall Festival (see Facebook page "Bluffton Fall Festival") and BHS Homecoming Weekend. Join us for some homestyle offerings.
