Donavin Montgomery was a lifelong Orange Township farmer

Donavin R. Montgomery, 91, died on April 21, 2014 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was born May 1, 1922 in Orange Township, Hancock County, Ohio to the late Walter and Pearl (Klinger) Montgomery. Donavin was married to Margaret Burkholder Montgomery and they divorced.

Donavin was a life-long farmer. He also worked at Rusco Company, Pandora, and worked security at Bluffton College. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bluffton. He served on the board of directors for the Bluffton Farmer's Grain, American Legion Post #382, Bluffton Senior Citizens, and the Allen County Farm Bureau. He was awarded the Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Year through the Bluffton FFA.

Donavin was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include four children: Connie (Larry) Kempf, Richard (Melanie) Montgomery, Carolyn (Bob) Zimmerman and Ronald Montgomery all of Bluffton; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Montgomery of Ada. Donavin was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Robert Montgomery.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 28, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton, with Revs. Carol Clements and Charles Warren officiating.  Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery near Bluffton, where military rites will be performed.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
