Bluffton men roll to 4-1 win over Kuyper

Stats

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Coach Nussbaum's second trip to Grand Rapids, Mich., in nine days produced another victory for the Beavers, this time a dominating 4-1 win over Kuyper College by the Bluffton University men's soccer team. The women pulled out a 1-0 shutout of Grace Bible College just over a week ago on September 24. Bluffton moved to 3-7 on the season with its second victory in three contests.

Junior Adrian Ramirez (Archbold) put Bluffton up 1-0 less than three minutes into the contest when he used a Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) touch to get the Beavers on the scoreboard. Jordan Andrews (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) connected with fellow senior T.J Kline (Mogadore/Lake Center Christian) for two scores just five minutes apart midway through the first period, making the score 3-0 in favor of the visitors.

Kuyper converted its first tally in minute 60, but Stutzman answered with his first goal of the season late in the match to cap off a 4-1 victory for the Beavers. Bluffton finished with a 27-10 edge in shots while forcing four more corner kicks (5-1) than their counterparts from Kuyper.

Stutzman and John Eckenrode (Northwood/Millbury Lake) paced the Bluffton offense with seven and five shots, respectively. Senior Caleb Berlon (Kettering/Fairmont) chipped in with four attempts, three on frame. Jeff Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) turned away three Kuyper shots while securing his third victory in goal.

Bluffton kicks off Heartland Conference action this Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Beavers travel to Hanover College. The contest is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's showdown with the Panthers.
