Volleyball splits on day two at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The second day of the Benedictine University Eagle Classic was, again, filled with competitive volleyball. The first opponent Bluffton faced on Saturday, Nov. 1 was Carthage. The Beavers put up some tough rallies against the #17 Lady Reds, but ended up losing in three (25-18, 25-23, 25-11).

MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) led the team offensively with seven kills and LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) followed close behind with six, against just one error. Junior captain SARA ROTH (Findlay/Van Buren) dished out 25 assists for the match. From the service line, McFarlin and BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City) had two aces against Carthage. Libero SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) led the defense with 13 digs and Weisgarber added seven.

The fourth and final match of the tournament for the Beavers was against the host school, Benedictine University. Bluffton took care of business, downing them in three quick sets (25-15, 25-10, 25-18).

The Beavers dominated the net with a .326 overall hitting percentage. Parmenter drove home a match-high 11 kills while hitting at a .348 clip. McFarlin and Weisgarber each pounded eight kills with Weisgarber hitting an unprecedented .615 against Benedictine. JENNY BROWN (St. Marys/Memorial) and ASHLEY LITWILLER (Hopedale, IL/Olympia) each added seven kills, hitting .455 and .538, respectively. Roth dished out 36 assists and led the team with 14 digs. Brown dominated the net defensively as well with five block assists.

With the regular season coming to a close this weekend, the Beavers are 21-11 going into post-season play next weekend. Bluffton will face the winner of the Wednesday night Hanover and Rose-Hulman match on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Defiance at 5 p.m. for the HCAC tournament semi-finals.
