Alice Niswander was a retired fifth grade teacher in Bluffton schools

Alice V. Niswander, 89, of Bluffton died 5:35 am, Nov. 12, 2014, at Bridge Hospice, Findlay.  Shewas born July 3, 1925, in Lima to the late Amos and Phoebe Steiner Oyer. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married H. Ray Niswander and he preceded her in death Dec. 13, 2010.

Mrs. Niswander was a 5th grade teacher in the Bluffton Schools. She was a member of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church, a member and former board member of the Swiss Historical Society, and secretary of the Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery Board for many years.  She was a graduate of Bluffton High School and Bluffton College.   

Survivors include a son, Ned (Debra) Niswander of Bluffton, six grandchildren, Joshua Niswander, Jenna (Jorge) Bernard,  Julianne (Seth) Burkholder,  Nikita (Devon) McCann,  Cheynoa (Nic) Summers, Dyami Simek, six great grandchildren, Noah Bernard,  Kayte Bernard,  Jordan Bernard,  Landon Bernard, Liv Bernard and Lilly Simek, and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Simek of Wakeman. 

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Simek, two brothers, Robert Oyer and Herbert Oyer and two sisters, Ethelyn Rice and Ruth Schumacher. 

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bluffton Presbyterian Church. Rev. David Good will officiate.  Burial will be in the Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery, Bluffton. 

Friends may call at the church one hour prior the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton Presbyterian Church or Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery.
