Four members of Bluffton Creative Writers Club win awards

Four members of the Bluffton Creative Writers Club, won awards at the Ohio Poetry Day Association’s 77th annual Ohio Poetry Day Contests, held Oct. 24-25 in Troy.

Local award winners include:
•Ruth Naylor, Bluffton
•Lynn Saunders, Elida
•LaRee Little, Elida
•Christina Walton, Pandora

Naylor led the Evan Lodge Workshop on Oct. 25. Poets present read their winning poems from the other 35 contests.

Naylor won second place in Contest 12 – "In Memory of Steven Lee," which had 44 entries. Her poem, “The Song,” was written for a student-friend’s senior recital and wedding song.

Naylor also won honorable mention in Contest 10 – "Just for the Fun of It," which included 66 entries. 

Saunders won second place with his poem, “Autumn,” in Contest 28 – "Imagery of the Seasons," which had 67 entries.

Walton won third place in “The Overnight Contest – Rhyming Structure: the Rhyming Couplet Poem,” which had 10 entries. Her poem title was “Grandma’s Scottish Rice Pudding.”

Little won honorable mention in Contest 34 – "Welcome Aboard," which had 11 entries.
Among books for sale during the weekend was Naylor’s newly released book, Straw & All: A Christmas Poetry Collection.

Naylor is the featured author at Book ReViews on Saturday, Nov. 29. She will be in the store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a book signing and reading featuring her “Straw & All: A Christmas Poetry.”
