Evelyn Smith 1945-2015

Evelyn L. Smith, 69, of Lima died at 8:10 a.m. Jan. 14, 2015, at her residence.  She was born Aug. 8, 1945 in Trenton, New Jersey, to the late George and Elsie (Lemaster) Hakin. 

She spent her childhood in Osage, West Virginia ,before her family moved to Akron, Ohio.  In 1956 she spent half of her seventh grade in the Lima school.  Evelyn graduated from Shawnee School in 1963.  

On Sept. 19, 1965, at Forest Park United Methodist Church in Lima she married Dennis D. Smith who survives. They lived near Bluffton for 39 years prior to their current residence near Cairo.

She was employed at the Union Bank Company, Columbus Grove, and Central Savings Association, Bluffton in the early 1970s.  She was a realtor with Roher Realty and Ron Spencer Realty in Lima for 6 years. She then worked for David R. Steiner, CPA as a secretary and data processor before retiring after 25 years of service.  

She and her husband managed to see most of the United States including Alaska and parts of Canada.  

She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Johnson, and son-in-law Michael of Gomer; her three grandsons Staff Sergeant Danniel Johnson, stationed in South Korea and his wife Erin (Schimpf), Carl Johnson currently a student at OSU. Lima and Joshua Johnson  a freshman at Elida High School. 

She is also survived by brothers, Jerry (Rena) Hakin of Norton, Ohio, George (Jeannine) Hakin of Lima, and John (Cindi) Hakin of Geismar, Louisiana.  Evelyn had one great-granddaughter Lillian Marie Johnson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Pastor Michael Downey officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Campbell Cemetery, Columbus Grove for family members at a later date. Friends may call Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
