Services for Dorothy Eastman at First United Methodist June 26

Dorothy Mae Eastman, Bluffton, died on June 13, 2015, at Betty House in Willow Ridge, Bluffton. 

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Altstaetter, of Northfield, Minn.; sons, Clifford (Cheryl) of Richmond, Ind.; Robert (Silvia) of Dublin and Richard of Ottawa. Also surviving are her sister, Martha Kohler of Cairo; two brothers, Richard Dackin of Cairo and Rev. Gary Dackin of Olathe, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  Her husband of 61 years, Warren R. Eastman; son, Max and her sisters, Marcile Siebeneck, Helen Stephens, Ruth Steele and Marguerite Dackin preceded her in death.

She was born March 20, 1925, in Putnam County to Russel and Velma (Carey) Dackin.  She excelled in school, skipping second grade and graduating as Valedictorian from Kalida High School. Following graduation she attended Northwestern Business School and was employed as a secretary at Westinghouse Corp.

On June 17, l945, she married Warren R. Eastman and they began married life in Columbus Grove. In 1958 Warren and Dorothy moved their family to Bluffton.

Dorothy worked full-time as a secretary at Bluffton College and later at Citizens National Bank. 

A member of The First United Methodist Church of Bluffton, she held several church offices over the years. After retiring, she spent volunteered at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Bluffton. She was also a member of the Telesis Club and participated in many classes at Learning in Retirement.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26, with Chaplain Bill Herr officiating. Burial will be at Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bluffton or the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio. Online condolences may be expressed at www.chiles-lamanfh.com
