Land Conservancy accepting easement applications

The West Central Ohio Land Conservancy is accepting applications for the 2020 Local Agriculture Easement Purchase Program (LAEPP) from landowners located in Allen County, according to Tyler Black of Bluffton and treasurer of the organization.

The LAEPP program allows landowners to voluntarily sell easements on their farms to the State of Ohio.

It’s Hanover over Beavers in HCAC match

The Bluffton University men's basketball team traveled to Hanover, IN, to take on the Hanover College Panthers in a Heartland Conference clash on Saturday, Jan. 11. While the game was back and forth for much of the first half, the Panthers pulled away late for a 63-44 victory over the Beavers.

Gillig scores 17, has 13 rebounds in Bluffton loss

The Bluffton University women's basketball team fell behind 25-7 at the end of one quarter and it was too much to overcome as Hanover College held off the Beavers for a 62-53 win on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020. Bluffton slipped to 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover improved to 7-5 with a spotless 6-0 mark in the HCAC heading into the Panthers' showdown with 6-0 Transylvania on Wednesday night.

Ruth Anne Frankhauser Lewis 1941-2020

Bluffton HS and Bluffton College graduate

Ruth Anne (Frankhauser) Lewis, 78, of Ohio City, died Jan. 12, 2020, at her residence.

Mrs. Lewis was born July 13, 1941, in Bluffton, to the late Levi and Mildred (Cotant) Frankhauser.

On Dec. 23, 1961, she married Kenneth L. Lewis, who preceded her in death.

She was an honor graduate of Bluffton High School and Bluffton College.  She was a head start teacher. She retired from the Farm Bureau and Nationwide Insurance, both in Van Wert.

State officials sign House Bill 2 at GROB Systems

For a moment this morning, Bluffton was the center of Ohio, as state government leaders held a bill-sign event here.

Attending a signing ceremony for Ohio House Bill 2, held at GROB Systems, were Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof, and Jon Cross, of the 83rd district, a primary sponsor of the bill.

The event was witnessed by about 60 persons including area elected officials, the media and GROB associates.
