University Library Week celebrates student research and creativity

Bluffton University’s Musselman Library will host its third annual Celebrate the Library Week, Feb. 1-5. The week is a time for discovery and community for students, faculty, staff and emerti.

The goal of this week is clearly stated in its tag line: “Celebrating Student Research and Creativity.” The week includes a variety of activities such as the five minutes of fame event, First Tuesday Forum, a health and wellness expo and a research fair. 

Five minutes of fame
4-5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, Musselman Library Reading Room
This event will feature eight student scholars, nominated by members of the faculty.  The students will give five minute presentations on their research, creative work or pre-professional experiences. Subjects to be discussed include: art, music, communication, business, humanities, natural and applied sciences, social and behavioral sciences, education and sport science.

First Tuesday at the library
11-11:40 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, Musselman Library Reading Room
Margaret Short, a Bluffton student originally from Archbold, Ohio, will share her experiences from the viewpoint of a student journalist at the Mennonite Church USA convention. Short is a public relations major and a senior at Bluffton University. Her presentation is titled, “Covering Conflict at Kansas City 2015.”

Health and wellness expo
10 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, Musselman Library Reading Room
Tips and information about keeping your mind and body healthy will be shared during the event by Jeanna Haggard’s nutrition, education and communication students.

Research fair
1-4:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, Musselman Library
A poster-session-style research fair will showcase student work including traditional research presentations, projects and creative work. More than 50 presentations are expected to be present at the research fair. This event is essential in enhancing the academic culture of Bluffton University. Participation is by faculty nomination.

All of the above events are free and open to the public.
