Maple syrup season celebrated soon in Metro Parks

Several events are planned in February by the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District. Those events follow:

On Saturday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m., the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District and will offer maple fest' volunteer training and pancake breakfast at McElroy Environmental Education Center.

Experienced and new volunteers are welcome to attend. Call 419-221-1232 to register by Feb. 18.

IN SEARCH OF THE FIRST SIGNS OF SPRING 
On Saturday., Feb. 20, at 2 p.m., is a search for the first signs of spring at Kendrick Woods. Call 419-221-1232 to register by Feb. 18.

MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL
On Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6, from noon to 5 p.m., is a maple syrup festival at Mclean Teddy Bear Park. 

Enjoy a guided tour along a one-half mile wooded trail to take an historic look at maple sugaring. There are several stops along the trail, depicting the maple sugaring story from early native Americans, to pioneers to the modern methods of tapping, collecting and boiling down.

The walk concludes with a visit to the “Sugar House” to view a modern evaporator followed by a taste of real maple syrup on a silver dollar pancake. Maple syrup and maple candy will be for sale. Admission is free.
