University concert features chamber ensembles

Nov. 14 in Yoder Recital Hall

Bluffton University’s Chamber Ensembles will perform a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall.

The Low Brass Ensemble, of three trombones and a tuba, will perform brass staples as well as selections originally written for other instruments.

Under the direction of Dr. Roy Couch, pieces include “An English Folksong Suite” arranged by John Hilfiger, “Salut d’Amour” by Edward Elgar and “In Memoriam” by Raymond Premru.

Several Veterans Day programs planned in Bluffton

Here are the Bluffton American Legion Post 382 ceremonies planned for  Veterans Day in Bluffton.

Cheryl and Thom Craig and Larry Core will be at the Bluffton Elementary School at 8:15 a.m. to show 4th graders the correct procedure on folding the American flag. Students will participate.

Members of Bluffton American Legion Post 382, Boy Scouts and Bluffton High School students will meet in the gym at 8 a.m. for a ceremony about Veterans Day.

Local quilt club delivering 48 quilts to area veterans

The Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters (BSAQ) are delivering 48 home-made quilts to area veterans on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. The club will visit veterans in Birchaven, Hilty Home, Mennonite Memorial Home, and Maple Crest to present the quilts.

BSAQ has been making twin-size quilts for veterans for 12 years, focusing on Ohio veterans for the last five years.

"We keep up with all the local institutions so all of our local vets have a quilt," said club member, Pat Rodabaugh.

Several "driving under suspension" arrests in October

Police also responded to a runaway school student

Here is the October Bluffton police department docket.

October 2
Officers responded to the middle school in reference to a student who had ran away from school. After alerting the public about the incident, officers located the student in the 500 block of South Main Street.

October 4
Officer received a theft complaint from a North Lawn Avenue resident.

October 7
Officers received a telecommunication harassment report from a State Route 103 business.
