Bethel Church of Christ planning Aug. 21 "back-to-school" Urge event

Although school is not out for the summer, plans are underway for a late-summer back-to-school event held at Bethel Church of Christ on Sunday, Aug. 21, according to Gideon Fisher, who is planning the event.

The event is called “Urge” and it is a free, community-wide, student, back-to-school event.

Fisher explained the event this way:
“The focus of Urge is to encourage students (junior high through college age) to do well in the upcoming school year but more importantly to urge them to be who God wants them to be in their schools.

“I think there are way too many students who love God, but seem to leave their faith at the door when they head back to school or they become this "other person" when they get back in school.

“Too often students assume they are alone in their faith and I think they would benefit from seeing (and experiencing) that they are not. I really want them to see the importance of shining their light and being Jesus in their school.

The event will have a speaker and three bands perform.

Those bands are the Mike Lee Band (worship) from Fort Wayne, SafeKept (Christian rock) from Columbus and my band B List Boys (Christian hip hop) from Bluffton.

While Bethel Church of Christ is a main sponsor of this event other organization are invited to assist in expenses.
