Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn opens Virginia location

Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Company is headed east this summer with a new franchise location in Harrisonburg, Va., announced Pete Suter, Shirley’s co-founder and CEO.

The store, in the heart of downtown Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley, will mark the company’s sixth overall location and first outside of Ohio.

Locally owned and operated by franchisees Rob and Lisa Roeschley of Harrisonburg, Va. and Wayne and Luisa Witmer of Broadway, Va., the new store is on schedule for an opening in the late summer.

Burma Shave-type signs show up along Ride to Remember route

Viewers who checked out the Iconoclast View column see a vision of many Burma Shave signs in front of them.

The signs were created for Saturday’s Ride to Remember bike ride by Bluffton Public Library staff.

The signs were place along the various bike routes to keep bikers entertained. And, according to questionnaires filled out by participants following the ride, the signs were a big hit.

Bluffton's second-ever Ride to Remember bicycle ride held July 16 attracted over 150 riders. Last year's ride brought 101 riders to Bluffton.

The ride is a fund-raiser for the Bluffton Pathway Program. Here are some views of the event.

Burma Shave signs return for Ride to Remember

Anyone 55 and older can appreciate it. Those younger, well, you'd have had to be there to understand what happens next.

Part of the fun of the Ride to Remember held Saturday involving over 150 bikers was the "Burma Shave" style signage.

These signs were dropped in several of the routes to keep the riders guessing.

We offer you two examples. Start with the top sign reading: "A Bad Attitude is Like..."

Timothy Fisher 1955 - 2016

Timothy A. Fisher, 60, died on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 9:28 p.m. at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1955 in Lima, Ohio, to Charles and Dorothy (Rush) Fisher and they are both deceased.

Timothy attended Bluffton High School.

Surviving are: a daughter, Lori Clay of Ada; 2 brothers: Kevin Fisher of Harrod and Chuck (Sharon) Fisher of LaFayette; 1 sister: Sandra Ulrey of Lima; and 3 granddaughters; and sister-in-law: Linda Fisher of Jackson Center.

Timothy was predeceased by a brother: Mike Fisher and a baby brother, Mark Fisher.

Elizabeth Cogley teaching resignation on Monday's school board agenda

Bluffton school board will act on a host of contracts at its July meeting on Monday.

In addition one teacher resignation will be acted up on.

Elizabeth Cogley, high school teacher and senior class advisor, has announced her resignation.

One certified employee contract will be acted upon for Emily Kriegel. Her’s will be a one-year contract and if hired she will enter the system as a master’s step 2 and will be offered a salary of $39,966.
