Wayne Habegger was a World War II veteran

Wayne W. Habegger, 93, of Vero Beach, Fla., and formerly of Bluffton died Aug. 4, 2016, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.  Wayne was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Bluffton to the late Joseph and Eva (Perkins) Habegger. On May 4, 1951, he married Verba Fisher Habegger who preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 2011.

Wayne was a self-employed carpenter and also taught carpentry at Four County Vocational School in Archbold.  Wayne attended Fellsmere Historical Church in Fellsmere, Florida. 

He was a graduate of Pandora High School and attended Bowling Green State University where he received his teaching certificate.  Wayne was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a gun turret mechanic on B-24 bombers and a relief waist gunner.  Two years ago, Wayne was honored to be able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include two sons, Eric (Cynthia) Habegger of Findlay, Joe (Margi) Habegger of Bluffton; two daughters, Debra (John) Feasel of Vero Beach, Fla., Sandra (Brent) Hare of Poplar Grove, Ill.; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Frances (Robert) Poe of Findlay.

Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Habegger; and four sisters, Helen Gibbs, Reva Doty, Margaret Males and Dorothy Rich.

Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Pastor Lynn Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery following the service where military rites will be performed.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
