Beaverdam Veterans Memorial dedication on Nov. 12

Committee has over two years of work on the project

A dedication is planned at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, for the Veterans Memorial in Beaverdam, according to Gary Crawfis, member of the memorial planning committee.

Speakers on Nov. 12 are, David Jackson, U.S. Navy veteran and First Vice Commander of the Ohio American Legion; Dan Kirkpatrick, U.S. Air Force retired and Mayor of Fairborn; and Roberta Beemer, Mayor of Beaverdam.

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382, Bluffton Boy Scouts and Beaverdam Bunch 4-H Club members will help with the ceremonies.  A lunch will follow the dedication.

The Beaverdam Veterans Committee has worked for over two and one half years on the memorial.

According to Crawfis, "It is to honor all United States veterans, past and present. The newly installed seven-foot tall black granite memorial is located in front of our new town hall on Main Street."

Crawfis said that it has been a long process for the committee, attending council meetings, getting bids and contracts, and making several trips to other veteran memorials for ideas.

"We have had several fund-raisers including selling chicken dinners, a rifle raffle, Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA) snack stop in Beaverdam, a cash raffle, and selling brick pavers around the monument to honor veterans," he added.

Committee members include: Bill McClain, Jim McClain , Bill Van Dyke, Tom Green and Gary Crawfis. The group has a Facebook: Beaverdam Veterans Memorial.
