Five Bluffton Boy Scouts involved in Eagle Scout projects

Five Bluffton Boy Scouts are involved in Eagle Scout projects this fall, according to Mike Metzger, Bluffton scoutmaster.

Metzger said that the requirements to achieve Eagle Scout include a series of advancements, the earning of at least 21 merit badges, and evidence of leadership skills.

A candidate for Eagle Scout must serve in one or more leadership positions in the troop and must plan, develop, and lead others in a service project helpful to a religious institution, school, camp, or other community organization not affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.

The scouts belonging to troop 256 are Christian Groman, Brice Metzger, Kaden Reneker and Jacob Thompson. Troop 256 Bluffton, is chartered by American Legion Post 382. Noah Woodruff, a BHS student, is a member of troop 176.

Christian Groman
Christian's project is to refurbish the shuffleboard courts at the Buckeye Park.  The project includes repairing and painting the shelter structures, replacing the chip holders, and repairing the steps for the storage shed. The beneficiary of the project is the Bluffton Shuffleboard Club along with the Village of Bluffton.

Christian is a junior at Bluffton HS. He is a member of the Bluffton High School tennis team and attends Ebenezer Mennonite Church. Christian is the son of Darrell Groman of Bluffton and Irina Groman of Elida.

Brice Metzger
Brice recently completed his project of building a deck on the back of the Bluffton Sportsmen's Club building at the Buckeye Park. The beneficiary of the project is The Bluffton Sportsmen's Club along with the Village of Bluffton.

Brice is a senior at Bluffton HS. He is a member of Bluffton High School's cross country and tennis teams and attends St. Mary's Catholic Church. He is the son of Mike and Amy Metzger of Bluffton.

Kaden Reneker
Kaden recently completed his project of building an information kiosk at Motter Park, Columbus Grove-Bluffton Road, Bluffton. The beneficiary of the project is The Johnny Appleseed Park District.

Kaden is a junior at Bluffton HS. Kaden is a member of the Bluffton High School's football and baseball teams and attends St. Mary's Catholic Church.  He is the son of Eric and Angie Reneker of Bluffton.

Jacob Thompson
Jacob recently completed his project of a sidewalk refurbishment at Ottawa Metro Parks. His project consisted of tearing out a raised planter bed and replacing it with paving bricks. The beneficiary of the project is the Johnny Appleseed Park District.

Jacob is a senior at Shawnee High School and the Apollo Joint Vocational School welding program. He attends Shawnee United Methodist Church. He is the son of Beth Thompson of Lima.

Noah Woodruff
Noah's project was to beautify the Bluffton Public Library, including removing shrubs, sanding and painting railing, and painting a shelf to turn it into a usable chalkboard. The beneficiary of Noah's project is the Bluffton Public Library.

Noah is a senior at Bluffton HS and is a member of Troop 176, Lima, chartered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Noah is a member of the Bluffton High School band and cross country team and attends the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lima. He is the son of David and Margie Woodruff of Bluffton.
