Hospital offering community da Vinci surgical robot demonstration at middle school Nov. 3

Robotic surgery to be offered as part of the Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital

Bluffton Hospital invites community members to experience a demonstration of the da Vinci Surgical Robot and learn about the new Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bluffton Middle School Cafetorium.

The event will begin with an introduction and overview of the Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital presented by Chief Administrative Officer Chris Keller.

A demonstration of the surgical robot will be provided by OB/GYN Dr. Lorie Thomas. The community will also have the opportunity to experience the da Vinci surgical robot through hands-on operation, and a Bluffton Hospital services fair will be held.

“We are excited to showcase this technology as we prepare to add it to our array of services at Bluffton Hospital as part of the new Women’s Center,” said Keller.

“We are very proud to be able to bring cutting-edge services such as this to Bluffton, allowing more people to stay close to home for advanced surgical procedures.”

School day presentation

A demonstration of the da Vinci Surgical Robot will also be held for elementary, middle school and high school students at Bluffton Village Schools on Nov. 3 during the school day.

Students will take part in a “name the robot” contest, with the winning submission being announced at the evening event.
