Scouts bring in 2,040+ canned goods

Bluffton Boy Scouts collected approximately 2,040 canned good items in Saturday's "Scouting for Food," according to Jami Crawfis, director of the Bluffton food pantry. Here the scouts are sorting items collected.
 

Keeney Peace lecture to explore racism in the church

Author, blogger, activist and professor Dr. Drew G.I. Hart will present “What has Shalom to do with White Dominant Culture?” during Forum at 11 a.m. on March 29 in Founders Hall. This is the 2016 Keeney Peace Lecture at Bluffton University. The event is free and open to the public. 
 
Hart recently earned his doctorate in theology and ethics from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. During his presentation, Hart will weave his pastoral experience with his academic training to challenge the Church to pursue practices that make for justice. 
 

University spring instrumental concert April 3

The Bluffton University Concert Band and instrumental chamber ensembles will present a concert on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. 
 

Chappell-Dick fourth heading into DIII mile finals

Bluffton High School grad and Eastern Mennonite All-American runner Hannah Chappell-Dick turned on the gas late in her preliminary race at Division III NCAA Nationals on Friday, earning a spot in Saturday's finals.

Despite sitting ninth in the nation entering the indoor national championships, she was second in her heat of the mile in 5:00.23 and will sit fourth out of the 10 finalists.

The top eight finishers in Saturday's race earn All-America status. Start time for the women's mile in Grinnell, Iowa, is set for 2:40pm Eastern time.

BHS concert band receives "Superior" at contest

The Bluffton High School concert band competing on March 11 in  Large Group Adjudicated Events, held at Shawnee High School, and received a Superior Rating.

According to David Sycks, band director, the band played the National Emblem March (Bagley/Schissel), Saturn: the Ringed Planet (Rob Romeyn), and Encanto (Robert W. Smith). There was a sight-reading portion of the competition as well.

Beavers Terrill Webb earns All-American status at DIII nationals

Following two and a half years of setbacks and comebacks, junior Terrill Webb (Kenton) realized one of her collegiate dreams today at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championship by earning All-America status in women's pole vault.
