Bluffton Community Housing Corp., turns over ownership of Vance Street Apartments

National Affordable Housing Foundation is new owner

Vance Street Apartments changed ownership on Jan. 1.

Bluffton Community Housing Corp., the overseeing body of both Vance Street and Riley View Apartment, turned over its ownership of Vance Street to the National Affordable Housing Foundation, according to Deb Beer, secretary of the housing corp.

Vance Street Apartments, 137 Vance St., had a major renovation of its apartments in 2015. At that time, BCHC signed over its share of the apartments, which enabled the apartment complex to qualify for tax credits to finance the remodeling.

The completion of the ownership transfer took place Jan. 1.

In reorganization meeting on Feb. 14 Bluffton Community Housing Corp. re-elected officers Fred Rodabaugh, president; Ed Yeager, vice-president and Deb Beer, secretary.

In addition three board members whose terms expired were re-elected to new three-year terms. Those persons are Beer, Mary Fett and Bob Inniger.

Continuing board members are Yeager, Rodabaugh, Bob Fett, Dr. Matthew Jordan, Lois Goodman and Kathy Rode. Inniger was earlier appointed to replace Wally Buroker who resigned when he moved from Bluffton last year.

Riley View Apartments are now available to persons 61 years old or older or for persons with handicaps.

Monthly rent is based upon a percentage of income. Evelyn Robison manages the apartments, which have availability for one and two-bedroom units.

Riley View history
Riley View Housing Complex groundbreaking was in July 1974. The apartments were originally developed for use by area senior citizens with 48 units constructed.

The Bluffton Community Housing Corp., a non-profit group, spearheaded the effort for the $700,000 federally financed project.

The apartments were constructed on a five-acre site along Riley Creek just off East College Avenue.
