Former Bluffton resident Evan B. Steiner dies in Florida

Former Bluffton resident Evan B. Steiner died Feb. 19, 2017, in Florida, where he lived.

He was born on April 28, 1924, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Mary (Balmer) and Soloman Steiner.  On April 5, 1947, he married Betty Kohli; and, this year they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.

His children are Carol (Tom) Bell, Westerville, Ohio/Hobe Sound, Fla.; Greg (Chris), Hobe Sound, Fla.,/Indian River, Mich.; Bob (Patsy), Hobe Sound, Fla./Highlands, N.C.  

He has eight grand-children, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Colletta Kinsey; and brothers, Bob, Oliver, Maynard and Carl.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed on Guam.

He enjoyed a 30-year career with the Lima Register Co., a Lennox subsidiary. After “retiring” in 1979, he and Betty moved to Stuart, Fla., and opened The Big Red Q Printing Center. After six years, they sold the business. He continued to work part time into his 80s for Proctor and Crook CPA’s and Publix Supermarkets.

A memorial celebration will be held on Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Martin Funeral Home in Stuart, Fla. Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m.
